International conference “Innovations in governance: between the interests of the city and the state”

Today, a majority of the world’s population is living in cities and towns. By 2030, urban population worldwide is expected to growth to almost 5 billion inhabitants. Public officials in big cities and small towns are working toward providing the services their residents need while maintaining control of their budgets. Forward-thinking public administrators are leading the way, with innovative programs to address acute and chronic budget shortfalls while fulfilling vital functions such as housing, transportation, social and cultural programs and restoring essential infrastructure.

The primary goal of the “Innovations in governance: between the interests of the city and the state” conference is to bring together public administrators and academic researchers, to unite the efforts of practice and theory to solve the actual problems of diffusion and adoption of innovations in governmental processes, and to exchange local results from around the globe.
It is also crucial for us to support junior researchers and future practical administrators and to give them an opportunity to discuss their ideas and present their projects.
The structure of the Conference includes a workshop session and a round table and on June 21st, and a poster session for junior researchers on June 22nd. Specific topics include, but are not confined to the following:

· Transfer of Improvements, Good Practices and Innovations
· Geographic Information Systems in Public Administration
· Innovations in Transportation System
· Information and Communication Innovations
· Innovations in Public Services
· Public Administration and Innovations in Business Sphere
· Smart cities policies and applications

Working language: English and Russian (simultaneous interpretation will be provided).

We welcome submission of abstracts by public administrators and scholars at all career stages. Abstracts should be written in English or in Russian and include author’s name, institutional affiliation, contact information, and a 200-word summary of the planned paper. Send abstract via email to: innovationconference2014@gmail.com, with “Public Administration and Innovations Seminar” on the subject line. The deadline for submission is April 10, 2014.

Students and junior researches interested in presenting their work in poster session should email a 200 words abstract or completed poster to innovationconference2014@gmail.com by April 15, 2014. Acceptance decisions will be made no later than Мay 15. Abstracts and posters should be written in English or in Russian.

Fee: Participation in the conference is free of charge, but conference participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses.
